FEW RANDWICK IMPRESSIONS
(By Cable. — From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Sydney Representative.)
I IME RICK leaves for Maoriland, this week, defeated, but not disgraced — his escutcheon untarnished. The champion broke down whilst competing m the Craven Plate at the third day of the A.J.C. meeting, an.d missed a place. ■ . '. ' Amounts won the race, but there is little doubt that it would have been a different result had the Limond gelding been sound.
And; form on the final day of the" meeting points strongly to the fact that Limerick should have easily, won the Spring Stakes the first day of the meeting. Winalot dead,- heated with Limerick m the Spring Stakes, but the general opinion is that Limerick should never have been beaten. His defeat m the Craven Plate; was one of the greatest shocks of the meeting and it. was made greater by the defeat of Winalot iri the Randwick Plate by the moderate handicapped Bacchus, which started at any old price. • ''"■'■. . ' " Bacchus is not m the 'same street as Limerick, which goes. to show how unlucky Limerick was not to win outright the Spring Stakes. The champion's heel bled badly after the Craven Plate and the impression here is that he should never have .been, started. Maorilanders missed the bus m the Gimcrack Stakes on Wednesday. Gay Ballerina, one of W. G. Stead's, finished third. Lady Seaborn, another of W.G.'s 'got away from the machine very badly and. was never m the picture. ; ; . : . Concentrate again fell below expectations m the Members' Handicap on Wednesday. He was with 'the leaders for a mile and then died out. The opposition was poor, so Concentrate is apparently not of much account. , .. .; "'■-.'■ .
Prince Humphrey, fresh from his . Derby: laurels,' is now m Melbourne to contest the V.R.C. Derby. ' v
He gained third place, behind Amounis ; and fourth hand/ m the Craven Plate, but was never a winning possibility. , There is little doubt that Prince Humphrey will win the Victorian Derby, even with Mollison m the field. Two runs at the Randwick meeting and. he won nearly seven thousand stake-money. He was a great bargain as a seventy-guinea yearling. . It is anticipated that Limerick yyill return for the. autumn meeting. He should not have much trouble m proving Winalot's ,d,ead- Heat and Amoiinis' win over him were, pure flukea. . ; .
