Clerk McKeown
CCQILENCE!" ■"— The word rings O through the • Auckland Police Court each morning from the lips of Court Clerk ' : McKeown as he ushers m the ... presiding magistrate. His introduction is <always the same; then, as soon as the noise of shuffling feet and the , ■ scraping of hurriedly pushed back chairs subsides, he proceeds to business. He carries a .store of information at his finger-tips, arid many are the demands made upon him during a morning. But it is all m the day's work, and the calm manner m which he takes all that is coming is a big factor m the smooth dispatch, of the daily routine. He is the friend of everyone who has business with his department. Always obliging, he plays the role of something approaching an inquiry bureau at times, and "Mac," therefore, is thought to be a good fellow. May his voice long echo through the courtroom.
