SAY 'TIS NOT IN ORDER
"Whoops, Let's Do It Again!" Cries Racing Conference (From "N.Z. Truth's 1 ' Special Auckland Representative.) It' would seem that the discontent aroused over the non-repre-sentation of the Auckland Racing Club on the executive body of the Conference is not viewed m a pleasing light, even by the ruling heads.
THAT seexna the only view to take of I the matter from the announcement made that the July election has been declared null and void. Whether the Conference is right m Its aotion or not is not easy to determine. From the headquarters of the Conference has oome what can only be regarded as a "feeler." . Headquarters wants to know whether the delegates at the annual meeting will agree to a postal baUot being taken for the election of the executive from the same seven nominees that were submitted m July. Doubts are expressed whether Auckland will favor such a proposal, thero being no provision m the Rules of Racing for such a ballot. The Auckland club is hardly likely to get away from the rules over the matter. If the reoent eleotlon has been declared null and void, It is reasonable to conclude that such action could only come about owing to an Irregularity having forced it. That being so, it seems the safest procedure is to arrange &. meeting o* the Conference and call for fresh nominations .and elect an executive m conformity with the rules. Then, If Auokland is shut cut In the oold and la not considered inmifiniiinnrannnniininiiiinnniniiiiiniiiinHiMimmHiiiiHiiiHiiniiunHim
worthy of representation on the executive, general feeling en the matter will be made plain. The present position, however, ls ridiculous. There axe somewhere about ninetythree different clubs racing m the Dominion, and it is out of reason to expect each and every one to claim direct representation.
Still, there Is probably no private concern m the country where the largest shareholder is denied a say m the conduct of the business. ■ The Auckland club conducts eleven days' racing a' year, and from that eleven days it provides by a' big margin more for the upkeep of the Conference than any other individual club. Its portion In levies, etc., runs out to about one-sixth of the full amount. It will not be .for the good of racing if discontent continues, but if the Auckland club is to be denied representation on the Conference, then it can only be taken it is not wanted. What such an indication will result m is hard to visualize. To "N.Z. Truth" the whole business does not savor of Auckland-ism, but individualism.
