HER DOUBLE
Terrible Displays On Saturday Last v (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) When any horse wins a double on the one day, punters away from . the course are liable to fo*rm elevated opinions about the horse. HOWEVER, it may prove unwise to . class Huirangi Girl, which won both the Hunters' Steeples events at Taranaki, more than useful. The five-year-61d struck "N.Z. Truth" as being more of the useful order than being possessed of [ any great merit. . She is one of the honest, plodding : type, certainly a fairly safe fencer, though she was a bit lucky standing ( up on one occasion. She was turned out m great condi-, > tion, but actually met the two weakest , fields of hunters seen out for a long time. The competitors which comprised the Maiden Steeples m her first triumph were hardly worthy of totallsator support, while all the dangerous opposition toppled out during the Hunt Cup Steeples. Out of eight starters m this race only two completed the course. It was not that the fences were big was altogether the cause of so many mishaps — rather that the track was tricky, being altogether too small m circumference to suit the majority of the competitors.
