WASTE OF GOOD MONEY
Takapuna Talks of Spending In Wrong Place (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) After several years' inactivi ty," the matter of supplying; suitable grandstand accommodation for the public is being' dealt with by the Takapuna club.
PLANS and specifications have been drawn up whereby stands to cost somewhere m the vicinity oi; £44,500 may be considered. This all reads very nicely, but the question which presents itself io the majority of racegoers, is: Does the race-track itself • warrant such expenditure? A genuine vote taken on the subject would end m one only answer^and that would be: No!' The track can hardly ever give complete satisfaction. There is no room to expand it. This is necessary to influence the very best horses to compete there. That being so, "N.Z. Truth" voices the opinion that the Takapuna Club should look for some other location to spend its £44,500 on There is no wish that Takapuna should lose its identity, but rather that it should arrange to hold its meetings elsewhere—say at Avondale. If it will not identify itself with any other club m existence, what about arranging to spend the pro, posed £44,500 at Takanini? There a track is already, formed, and Takanini could be made a
racing rendezvous worthy of the name. ™ m i -> ± . , . If Takapuna is determined to cling *° ** Kr .' J. " l? Anyhow, racegoers generally are not m favor of the disbursement of £44,500 on any asset which will dePredate m value—and this will assuredly happen with Takapuna's present location. The track itself does not merit such an expenditure with the proposed stand, v tout it is the general opinion the idea should be dropped altogether an^ u the . money. expended elsewhere + T, here « certainly no immediate intention of going on. Anyhow, it is the general opinion among racing folk that if the game lasts > Takapuna may eventually go. Nobody is anxious to see this prediction come true—if the club wi" do the ri 9ht thin 9' But will it?
