NEW ZEALAND'S BLACK DAY

(By Cable. — From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Sydney Representative.) SATURDAY was a black day for Maoriland horses, and only two minor placings fell td their lot. Raasay was seoond to Reonui m the Dundas Handicap, and Perception third m the Three and Four-year-old event. The unkindest cut of all was Roscrea's dismal showing m the Three and Four-year-old Handicap. Since winning like a champion the previous Saturday, Roscrea was spoken of as a likely Derby hope, but he fell from grace. Heavily backed, he had every chance and finished only a poor fifth. Raasay and First Acre set the ball of misfortune rolling. Raasay ran a game race but was not good enough. First Acre finished last m the same race. In the next event Arikiwai also finished last. There was a boom on Arikiwai before the race — the boom is off him now. Amplifier may have saved the day m the Granville Stakes, but fell three furlongs from home when going well m the leading bunch. Perception and Ti Tree met m the next race. Ti Tree was nearly last early and off the course at the turn. She finished about sixth. Perception did better. He was with the leaders the whole way and finished third. Gesto and Roscrea failed m the next event. Gesto was never m the picture. The tide will turn next Saturday. Limerick looks tho best of good things for the Warwick Stakes, and some of the minor events may fall to the lesser lights. nmiMNiiiiiiiiiiNiiiiiMdiiimiiimiiiiiiiiiMNimimiiiiiiiiiiiimiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiMiiii>iiiiliill|iiliiiiiiiiiililiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiliillliiiiiiilliilllliilitilillllil||lUili muuuiniiimiiiiiuiiNWfoiiuimiinnramminimnmnttHiiim
