Sydney's Pay Envelope Will_Suffer (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep,) _ Sydney Alfred Bennett will have his work — and his pay envelopewell cut out for the future, if he continues to run two homes, as it was alleged he was doing by Lawyer Matthews m the Maintenance Court last week. CYDNEY is a man who does not appear to take his matrimonial responsibilities very seriously. T Evelyn, his wife, who still looks Ta young woman, told Magistrate Cutteft from, the witness-box last week thilfc she was the mother of Sydney's thre& children and that some time after their marriage he was sent to the Borstal for a term of discipline. ■i On his return, he settled . down - ; for a time, but he was, not content :j with domestic life and developed a ;i, . habit of taking girls out,, leaving' his wife and children destitute.." : : It was on these grounds that she asked for separation and maintenance, No man can cut a dash m drab clothes m these days of high cost of courting. Sydney, though' he told hl6 wife he had no money, bought a new suit of olothes. \\* That was nearly twelve monthi aro — and he had not since been back to pay his compliments to his wife and children. ' . - But he was a kind-hearted man— -t^o a degree — for he sent his wife aiw| three children sometimes £1, sometimes even 25/-, towards their upkeep. His total remittances, however, have hardly averaged 15/- a week.Not content with a change of homes, he had— so Evelyn, m response to Lawyer Matthews' questions, stated— taken the name of : Sydney Lockwood. He and the lady on whom he had conferred the honor of his company were going around as a married coupled It was stated that Sydney, the man of many encumbrances, worked at Westfleld and earned £4/5/- a week.; Magistrate Cutten, with the wisdom of Solomon, considered that if Sydney halved his earnings and gave his / legal wife and three children £2/2/9 m. week* the case would Jj§ me _.
