WHITHER AWAY, MY LAD?

Johnnie Leckie Does Not Desire To Travel Yet

(From "N.Z.., Truth's" Special Dunedin Representative.) If all the tales about Johnnie Leckie 's future programme were given credence, the Dunedin boy would be fighting m half a dozen countries at the same time.

•TRAINER-MANAGER Archie Leckie 1 told "N.Z. Truth" last week that while his charge can be accommodated with fights m New Zealand they have no desire to go globe-trotting. With the fights he is getting against high-class importations, Leckie is gradually, but . effectively, broadening his experience. And as he is now scrapping for the maximum purse, Johnnie is content to stay at home for a while. "We both have our jobs and our homes here and it suits us to stay," Archie told "Truth," "and so long as the men are here to fight we stay." Influenced, no doubt, by the success which has attended Tom Heeney In his

amblings around the globe, Johnnie' has hinted at a desire to go to England and, if successful there, to emulate the deeds of Heeney and seek higher honors m America. Both he and his trainer, however, are quite definite that while there are men In New Zealand to fight, they will be on hand to accommodate them. Should the supply of suitable opponents fall off, the Leckies will then probably be seeking fresh fields to conquer. < ', The Otago Association realizes that it has the "best draw card m the country m Johnnie. • Thus it is unlikely that the southern body will see him go short of work.
