WANTED—!

More Municipal Golf Courses (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Golf Correspondent.) Wellington golfers are again raising their voices for better facilities for municipal golf. There is no doubt that Berhampore is short and is a very congested course. . DEPORE.the Berhampore course was, constructed the writer tried to convince the late W. Morton, then city engineer, to build the links on the land adjoining Miramar and Ly all Bay. The^ opportunity is still there and there — if any move is made to extend municipal golf for Wellington — should the new links be laid out.. Hills will have to be demolished and fairways made on the sand. Going to waste every day is enough material to make fairways and that is the sweepings and mud off the streets. Beautiful fairways have been made of such waste matter and Wellington can do the same. Municipal golf has proved its value and' the city fathers should not hesitate to listen to the call' for more sp*ace to accommodate the . numbers who would, play if links were made at the bay. There is. a greater revenue from golf than any other sport ; it pays its way, and that is worth consideration. If Berhampore can return £1500 per year m fees, a course at Lyall Bay would return more, for it could be built to accommodate more players. Harewood club- kno/w the value of trees around a golf course and are preparing to plant 6000 trees on their property. ' J. S. Munro, one of Palmerston's improving players-7-and that club has many — han.d.ed m a great card of five up on bogey, from a 6 handicap m a recent competition. A fine performance; this, which will make the handicapper readjust! Not to be outdone by the crows of Canberra who swooped down on the Hon. W. M. Hughes' ball, on the last green and carried it away, the gulls of Auckland started playing a similar trick at One Tree pill.' . One big fellow made several attempts to pick lip a Dunlop and eventually made off with the ''pill" m his beak. He dropped it over 3(30 yards away from the place where he got it and a player nearby returned the ' ball to its owner. If this- continues, a new rule m golf will have to be made to cover such occurrences. .'. '•:■ ' .
