FREE -LEGGED?
Not Very Popular Up North (From "N.Z. Auckland Rep.) Free-legged events have never proved very spectacular at Epsom — and it would come as no surprise to see them deleted from future programmes. THE Auckland club is said to* be of A the idea that events for moderate straight-out trotters will free 'the bill better, so that events where unhoppled pacers compete against the trotters may soon foe a thing of. the past. It is reported that if trotting races are substituted, the limit will be somewhere about 4.42, but a better move may be to tighten the class up to 4.40. There is no getting away from the fact that using the pruning knife on the limits m the past has improved -the sport. There should be a fair number of trotters obtainable, eligible for a 4.40 two-mile event. Sunny Vue went a fair race at Wai-< mate and the only reason he did not get any money was because he was not good enough!. \
