HIS CHANCE
Money For A Safe Fencer (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) Though he has never appealed as a top-liner there is every prospect of Kameharrieha going to Ricoarton to contest the Grand National Steeplechase. THIS because the majority of the *■ cross-country tribe out this winter are medium m quality. Anything which can fence and m, at the minimum must have at least some show of gathering m part of the minor money. Probably another reason that may influence Denny Moraghan to give it a "go" is that there seems every likelihood of Sam. Henderson's services being secured for Kamehameha. Fact is, there is a doubt about. Henderson steering his old love, Beau Cavalier, for it is generally understood Bill Bowden has been definitely engaged for the top -weight ln this particular race. If that is so the idea of parting with double riding fees may not appeal, seeing that a horseman of Bowden's calibre has been pegged off. To get back to Kamehameha, he has won minor races on the. flat and also gathered m some money over hurdles. - It was not till the coming of the present winter, however, that a career over country was mapped out for him. At the last Great Northern meeting, when m at the minimum, "Karae." took the Greenlane Steeplechase from eleven others, including Clockwork and Lady Cintra, both of which won minor steeplechase events later on at the Ellerslie fixture. Kamehameha's next effort was running second over the same course to Lady Cintra m the Tamaki Steeples, when saddled with 10.7. Then down again at 9.0 he failed to complete the course when Pourl (9.5) ran away with the Manlopoto Steeples at the Te Kuiti fixture. His striking of a fence m the lastnamed event left Kamehameha a bit weak and this was the reason of his absence from Trentham. Kamehameha has since fully recovered and schooled safely at Ellerslie. This ls the full strength ..of ' Moraghan's Grand National hope. AGAIN UNOPPOSED ' MO opposition was offering against E. *' W. Mitchelson when it came to nomination day for the Presidency of the Auckland Club. In fact, only one election is necessary, there being one too many entries for the general committee.
