Top Half Seems To Dominate Winter Hurdles '.■ . ■ ■ -i ■ . ■ .-■■'■■.■•..■ The Trentham meeting is under way and happenings on the first two days may alter prospects m the Winter Hurdles.

nPHBRE is an open hurdle race the 1 first day of the meeting — it carries a five-pound penalty '•" for Satur-, day's big event — fwhile.on the second day there is a flat race 'for the jumpers. Then there are also the 1 ' vagaries of the weather to be considered. Bad ground will be experienced the first two days, but should the weather, keep fine for the rest of the week — from Tuesday on— it is possible the ground will be a. lot "better on Saturday. Indications, at this stage point to the top half of the handicap dominating the issue, for the lightly-weighted division do hot appear^ — on paper — to be up to the task. Nukumai will no doubt be a runner. Should he show up m the flat races on the two opening days, there will be plenty of money for him, even with his 11.13. To him bad ground will not be such a handicap as it will be to some of the others. ■ Red Fuschia rs'the hurdler produced this season- and he has run up a sequence of, victories. I Kawinl Is a useful eort and he I can mix It— over country one 'day and clear hurdles the next. He has a. chance, . but one or two others are preferred to him. Notwithstanding Beau Cavalier's win m the Northern Hurdles, he is not fancied. Without wishing to take' any of the credit away from the Dig fellow, the field he spreadeagled was hardly up to Saturday's, class. And half of them that day fell by the roadside. That, however, had nothing to do with Beau Cavalier. He did what he was supposed to doJumped the fences.
