QN the first day at Epsom it was not, ■ so bad, but considerable delay waa noticeable on. the second day. It was observed that drivers were ' adjusting Overchecks and other necessary paraphernalia long after the balloon was.hoisted. A little stir-up m this direction 18 badly needed. , Of course, big fields make the starter's jpb no easy one, but at present ;too much latitude is allowed drivers. T, They should be In the sulkies. ready to move off when the signal is hoisted. Standing about for a time puts a, horse on his toes. . It is generally the one which is ready at the right moment that becomes restless, through being delayed as a result of the dilatory methods of ' several reinsmen. They have got into a sluggish groove and are likely to remain there unless a reminder to the extent of forking out a few notes is meted out to them. «
