"Cooker" Burns
QURELT a man to whom the intriO cacies of cricket and football —not to mention insurance—are all m the day's work, must tie a little above the average. . Yet, if you were to meet R. C. Burns, of Christenurchi you would instinctively class him as among the nicest chaps you'd ever encountered. "Bob" Burns —for some unkndwn reason his friends call him "Cooker"— is a member of the council that governs Canterbury cricket. And his ability m cricket is not confined to the council. To see him use a bat is to see real cricket. In addition, he was at one time a top-notch footballer. Nowadays, he spends all his spare time-—and quite a lot he cannot really spare —coaching the younger members of the Christchurch High School Old Boys' teams. He is a tower of strength to Old Boys. In matters dealing with the Old Boys' Association his word- carries ; weight.
