Mrs. Hadfleld thrashed her on 1 the back of the legs and hands with the 'handle of a racquet. She put the child: to bed and gave her a glass of hot port wine. i The child complained of. pains in the stomach before going to sleep, but Mrs. Hadfield thought they were> caused by a fall from her bicycle. !
