CONDITION WILL COUNT
Canterbury Park Offers Smallest Stake For Class (By "The Toff.") The King George Handicap to be decided at Addington on Saturday, offers the smallest- prize for its class m the Dominion.
/CONSEQUENTLY, the Canterbury V-* Park Trotting .Cub can only expect the support the stake warrants. To win the King George Handicap, a horse will have to take the same penalty as it would m annexing one of the many thousand-pound prizes that are available for horses that have done 4.30 or better for two miles. Looking over the field, one can readily see that half of them will only be forward enough m condition to be beaten three furlongs from home. Owners of high-class horses are not going to race for 600 soys. when they can win a thousand pounds. And so, m reviewing the field for next Saturday's race, one has to take into consideration the condition of the candidates. Roicole and Trampfast are m good nick, but Roicole is a cheat and Trampfast is a trotter that is apt to get into bother among the pacers. Talent and Quality are on 12yds., Talent will go a good race, but the chances are that Quality will stay with the starter. ( ' ummnimimnimnimnimniMuiinniiiiiiimniiiiiiiimiiiuiiimmimiiimiiimii
Tom Thumb is nice and healthy, but will he be ready for a hard race? The same may be asked of Peter Bingen, Cardinal Logan and Prince Pointer. Of the two, Prince Pointer may ba most forward. Logan Park is very fit; so is Logan Chief. For that reason they must hold big chances. Queen's Own, Talaro- and Black Admiral are ready for a real tussle. Waitaki . Girl and Dalnahine are m racing shape. J. Bryce will make his first appearance with Native Chief and interest will be centred on the "Oakftampton" trainer's efforts to get the gelding on the journey. If he does, sparks will be flying at the finish. But on work aiid recent form, LOGAN PARK, BLACK ADMIRAL and TALARO should be prominent at the finish. l!IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIUIIIIIIIINIIIIIIlllUllllllllllllllllliiiir>iii||t||||||||llllllllllllllllll!lllt
