THREE MONTHS

For Going Over

Too Soon

If you contemplate doing it, lad— don't. 'There's plenty of hurry." THIS advice is offered to all riders — *• be they old in the gam© or the merest tyros — whose sense of distance is a little warped.

Rules of racing call for a rider to be two clear lengths in front before he can cross.

Young Humphreys, riding Assurance in the Marton Cup, momentarily forgot about the existence of this rule, for with hardly a length to the good he crossed over.

To do so, he went right under the neck of Avro, nearly knocked him over, sending him back on to Stormy.

Stormy, in turn, did a pretty good exhibition of a ship in a beam sea — and all those round him suffered also.

There was an inquiry, at which Humphreys admitted his offence, but offering in extenuation that Avro was hanging out and that he went for the fence to get out of the trouble.

In doing: so, unfortunately he caused trouble for himself and everybody else. After talking it over, the

stewards decided that three months' spell would fit the case.

In addition, they also directed that Assurance, which ran third, be put back to fourth, while Avro was moved up a place to third berth.
