Successful Romerol

NOW that our merry Christmas and the glad New Year are but history, Bert Romerol, that hardy main-bearing in that great machine known as the Post Office, breathes a sigh of relief. A mixed metaphor, perhaps, but it shall suffice.

For Bert, despite all his quiet, unassuming ways, is in charge of the parcels dispatch of the Chief Post Office in Dunedin. As most of us know the worry of, say, three or four Christmas parcels, we will appreciate the magnitude of Romerol's job. He was, until recently, postmaster at Moray Place, Dunedin, and it is rumored — only rumored, mind you — that dear old ladies as well as giddy young debutantes developed the habit of passing several post offices to go to Moray Place on the off-chajice of buying their stamps from Bert. Indeed, Romerol has always enjoyed popularity, whether in a big post office or in a place like Alexandra, where he was stationed during the gold-dredging boom. No one grudges promotion to another when it goes to the right man, and every postal official knows that Romerol .has climbed ladder through the application of brains and sheer hard work.
