COW PROVINCE

Excellent Sport At Stratford

There is racing only once a year at Stratford, but what the meeting may lack in racing days it makes up in good fellowship.

rVERY year finds an exceptionally Hi well-conducted gathering and this year should be no exception. The Cup is worth good money and it always attracts a fine field. After tier win at Awapuni, there should be no need to go outside Lady Desmond for a favorite. So far as her behavior was concerned at Awapuni, there was nothing to question.

In the race itself she -went a little peculiarly, but that may not be so on Monday. Yoma was accorded the big end in the Fendalton Handicap at Riccarton and that form may be worth following. In fact, Lady Desmond and Yoma look the right two. Backers will have the form of Taranaki and Awapuni to go on ior the open six.

At Awapuni Lady Cavendish was only just beaten, while at New Plymouth Partaga ran. consistently — as he always does. This pair seem to have it on their own, but the racing . at Taranaki may bring Town Bird on wonderfully. Form for the Juvenile will be

worked out on the running at New Plymouth and as most who will be

at Stratford were at New Plymouth they will have their own ideas on the subject.

Melissa seems to have struck fprm, and when ( she is at her best few of her age have it on her — or, at least, last year they did not. After his .Hack Cup success at Taranaki, Bright Glow will be seriously considered for the Midhirst Handicap. He is well above the average.

Barryander was placed at Awapuni, and she — with Miss Mercia — may give the .inost bother.
