OVER THE HILL WE GO
Main Events At Tauherenikau On Saturday Tauherenikau is in ordinary parlance "over the hill" from Wellington — and many will make that trip on Saturday arid Monday.
TAUHERENIKAU is a nice, pleasant *• place, and though the racing may not suit all, there are other compensations. But whatever should happen on Saturday, prospects are very bright. The winner of the Wairarapa Cup has a trophy worth winning, and there is going to be a big number of triers to collect the cup. Though on quite a different scale to Awapuni, Joy Bird is going to prove a big nuisance, and Bill Higgins may get that cup. The elect of the Moroney stable — he has Vertigern and David Garrick engaged — should give the mare her most trouble. The open six is run early in the day, and at times it influences happenings in the big race. But not worrying about that,
there are two worth taking into consideration. They are Lausanne and . Licinius. Between them they should have the big say. The open seven-furlong race will find a lot of support for Polyphemus, although he last ran over hurdles. He went well on the flat at FeUding when up fresh, and he still retains all his pace. Royal Game should turn out to be his most dangerous opponent. In the two-year-old flutter High Disdain — another of the Bagby stable — will have it heavy on the rest. He is an improving sort and one that may go on and'reaeh top class. Several of the others have shown form, but the only one with a success to his credit is Australis. But with all things considered, High Disdain should be capable of holding his own — and a little to boot.
