The Art of Applique

Any new idea, or an out-of-date one that is revived, after a long absence, is always welcomed by the girl whose skilful fingers make beautiful her own clothes. CCARVIDS will play a big part in this coming summer's sartorial scheme of things. A wide choice In these pretty and useful appendages is offered and a girl who likes enrbroidering can make a simple piece of inexpensive silk look a really costly article.

This is where applique work makes its bow.

Buy sufficient crepe-de-chine, in the color best suited to you, and trim it at the corners, or in any place you like with conti-asting shades of silk material. Large spots are particulai'ly effective if appliqued on.

Plain silk evening shawls can be similarly treated, but see that the design is on a large' scale.

A smart interstate visitor flung one of these appliqued shawls over her frock the other night at the theatre, and the effect of those large vivid blue parrots appliqued on the rose pink shawl was very beautiful.

Satin court shoes lend themselves to applique work and look the better for a touch of it, as also do large summor linen, hats and bags.
