"Born' 58 Sti ll-"
WHEN a man can say unto himself: "To me no man beareth animosity," he may speak proudly. By virtue of a kindly and open nature, Fred Farrell, managing-secretary for the Auckland Sports Club, may chant the words. There are not many people m Auckland who do not know F.F., and knowing him — everyone likes and respects him.' But all, Auckland may not be aware that Fred is an Aussie, and it is with a proud and "don't-you-forget-it" air that he lets one know he was born m Sydney m '58— of Australian parents, too. It is 18 years ago since Fred crossed the pond with billiard expert Harry Grey. Later he was associated with the son, and world's champion, George Grey. For a period of ten years F.F.s stentorian lung power did the loud--1 speaker part for the Northern Boxing Association: "On my right Syd. Sloggs, nine-stone two . . . ," and so on. Fred was too far past the meridian of life to carry a rifle to the Great War, but he did some solid long-range work by slinging his weight around m relief and patriotic fund campaigns. Fred takes life philosophically, and spreads a wide, optimistic smile when assuring one that he is really on his seventieth Ijp round the calendar.
