IN MANAWATU
First Century Goes To Cameron (From "N.Z. Truth's" Palmerston North Rep.) Last week, at Palmerston North, Manawatu won the right to play Taranaki, holders, for the Hawke Cup by defeating their neighbors, Rangitikei, with ten wickets to spare. POMMENCEMBNT of play was delayod till the afternoon because of inclement weather arid Ongley, winning the toss, sent the visitors in to bat on a bowlers' wicket. Merwood (27), Miller (14) and Cameron (14) were the only batsmen who were able to cope with the bowling, the Rangitikei innings concluding at 81. A bright knock of 57, retired, by

At the close of the first day's play Manawatu had one wicket down for 101, and Pacey was unable to complete his strike. McVicar also batted soundly until an injury to his chin prevented him from carrying on until the next day when he brought his tally to 40 not out. Gallichan (23) and Ongley (IS) were the next best bats for the home team, whose 171 gave them an advantage of 90 runs on the first innings. Cameron's 119 was the first century to be macFe"in representative cricket in Manawatu this season and was thoroughly deserved. The Manawatu opening batsmen in the second innings, Gallichan and McVicar, commenced to punish the bowling, and the necessary runs were secured in time and without the loss of a wicket, Gallichan contributing 85 and McVicar'2s. Gallichan took 2 wickets for 24 in the first innings and four for 36 in the second.
