HAWKE CUP MATCH

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Representative.) ,The first Hawke Cup match of the season will commence on Saturday at New Plymouth between Taranaki and Wanganui.

THE river city team will be a fairly ... strong one, though Dempster will be greatly missed. The batting will, however, be sound, with Orr, Bunny, Wood, Thakabaii, Bernau, Treadwell, Holland —all good batsmen—to rely on. Orr is batting as well as ever, and as a fieldsman he is one of the finest in the Dominion. Bunny plays for the Collegiate School and is a very solid bat and a good bowler. Thakabau is also a fine all-rounder, while the others mentioned are all capable of making runs. The challengers will probably have to depend chiefly on Bernau and Hoi-

7 land to do the bowling. The former is 1 in better form than he was last sea- , son, and with his experience at Home , to help him should trouble the Tara- , naki batsmen. Holland is in the veteran stage, but 1 he is still capable of splendid work t with the ball. He may not have all the devastating nip and spin of former 3 years, and if he strikes form he will i prove that there are few better trun--3 dlers about than he is. As of old, his - wonderfully consistent length makes him always dangerous. i It should be a very evenly contested' ■ game.
