POINTERS FOR PETONE

Fields At Wellington Trotting Club Meeting

(By "The Toff.")

Considerable interest will be taken m the summer meeting of the "Wellington Trotting Glub, which is set down for Saturday at Petone.

GOOD fields will turn out for every race, and among those carded are several horses that will aspire to important contests before they are much older. The day's racing will open with the Hutt Park Trial Handicap, for horses that can step a mile and a-quarter m '3.4. The distance will suit Pageant and Bankhead, a pair that will keep Shirley McKinney and Sir Author busy. In the Nai Nai Handicap, Native Star will have plenty of friends. Little Johnnie ' has previously shown a liking for Wellington and on that account he is entitled to consideration. Swiftbine is to be considered, but after an interesting race Swiftbine, Native Star and Little Johnnie should be m the picture. The third item on the card is the Railway Handicap, which may be easy for Jackie Audubon assuming that Vestas does not go right. If he steps out correctly it won't be a race — just a procession. Of the others, Item and Exclusive appeal most. After the New Zealand Gold Cup is decided the sprinters capable of racing m saddle will occupy the stage.

The stake at issue is that associated with the Sharpe Handicap, a 2.18 class. Of the front-markers Epigram may be prominent. Then there is Pointalena, which ran second m a similar event at Forbury. On that showing he must be considered. Then there is Caprice, so m what will be a hot contest Epigram, Pointalena and Caprice may give a lot of cheek. For the Wilford Handicap, Little Johnnie will have a big following — that is if he fails m the Nai Nai Handicap which will be run earlier m the afternoon. But with two miles to go Native Star and Swiftbine probably will finish first and second. Should Vestas act nicely m the Middle Class Handicap he may lead them home. The opposition is weak, the best probably being Chimer and Jackie Audubon. Regarding- the Electric Handicap, Hue Coronado is a lively customer over ten furlongs, but when Logan Park, Talent and Brentloc get to work the others will know that they have been to the races.
