CLAUDELANDS ' TRACK
An Up-to-date Trotting Rendezvous
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.)
It has not fallen to the lot of many country clubs to be so fortunate as Waikato T.C. m being- granted the privilege of holding its fixtures for two years at Alexandra Park, and thus reap extra finance.
NEVERTHELESS, it is satisfactory' to know that the best possible use has been made of the cash, for Claudelands as a trotting track is all that could be hoped for. The appointments are second to none away from the metropolitan tracks. Tlie race-path itself is just a shade over six furlongs and is well banked where necessary with a good growth of grass. The straight is almost two furlongs long, giving horses m behind at the home turn a reasonable chance of success m the final run. The stand and paddock accommodation for both inside and outside patrons jis satisfactory, and, m fact, Claude-
lands as a trotting rendezvous is a credit to President Dick Reid and his committee. The members are to be congratulated on their efforts m bringing everything up to requirements. The Waikato T.C. should experience no difficulty m securing extra permits if such are to be handed round. They have the right place m Claudelands to cater for all concerned. No one begrudges them the cash reaped at Alexandra Park fixtures, for they have spent it wisely. Claudelands has an experienced permanent caretaker m Harry Rouse, who knows his business.
