A True Bill
WHO said the law was "a hass?'" Certainly no one who has met A.
C. Hanlon, Dunedin's authority on torts and "bluies," who wears his wig and gown with all the grace of a diplomat m an evening suit.
Whether you're on Hanlon's visiting list or otherwise, the mere fact that you reside m the Caledonian centre entitles you to refer to him as "Alf." You have only to say: "Oh! Alf. Hanlon is of the opinion that — " and any argument is yours. .-■
Cross-examination is an art with Hanlon. Without baiting or making the man m the box feel small, A.C. asks questions of the sensible variety and leads the witness into willingly telling- all he knows.
He is courteous, patient and tolerant. There are none of those bombastic airs which many a lawyer considers Impressive about Alf.
Like many other successful men m Dunedin, he has grown with his city. Time was when the shingle outside his door attracted little attention. Those days, happily for Alf., are gone for ever.
