HE'S A "TAKE"
Branson Not What He Looks
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) Branson Is one of the greatest "takes" of the racing world and anyone who gaze.B at the son of Greyspear for the first time without knowledge of his galloping ability would feel inclined to class him as a farmer's hack — which he originally was — rather than a racehorse. VET racehorse he is — and one which- . threatens to go a great deal further. Of late the "carty" looking bay has been gathering m only small stakes, but it has been easy money all the time for him. He seems to be getting better with each effort. That he can carry weight well he proved by giving a .hack field at Te Rapa a start and beating them m the run home when saddled with, over 9.0. That he is game he clearly instanced by responding to the slogging efforts of his rider and getting up m time to touch off In the Shade at the Thames fixture and running seven m 1.27. His joint owners have reason to wear the smile of contentment at ownIng a horse possessed of such power and speed as Branson. It seems that they did not ask a penny too much when they placed £1000 on him as their, selling price when questioned during the winter. Since then Branson's trot of successes has brought m £720, while he has been backed with confidence m each of his four victories.
