NOT SO NIPPY
Fails On Ellerslie
Track
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.). Early m his career, when Nippy won two minor events at Taka« puna, he promised to turn out a great horse, but he has hardly lived up to the high opinion formed of. him at that stage. LIE certainly won four other races that ** season — one at Te Aroha, two at Whangarei,' and the Connolly Handicap at Wanganui — all on left-han,ded tracks. Last season he started on eleven occasions without scoring a single victory, though he . secured minor placemoney m four of his starts. He has never displayed any liking for the Ellerslie track, where the right'handed going and the inclines at the old mile and five -furlong posts seem to trouble him. Despite this knowledge, punters poured good money on him m both starts at the Thames fixture, hoping that he would do better after his great showing m the Wellington Handicap. But Nippy, though looking a fit horse, again raced without confidence on the Ellerslie track and m his last start was pulled up without finishing the course, as his, jockey scented something wrong. He was displaying signs of lameness behind. If ever Nippy does .win a race at Ellerslie he deserves it, but perhaps his party will think seriously of dodging that track with the son of Bardolph m future.
