TTHE bronzed and genial face of 1 Alek Dempster, builder, of Dunedin, is one that cannot hide the friendliness of the man it adorns. Though more than sixty years have passed him .by, you wouldn't guess it to look at him. He has been m Dunedin for all of his eventful life. In fact, he was born there! Dunedin is big enough for Dempster. A.D. was connected with constructional work during the great Exhibition of 1925-1926 and was engaged on similar work at the Exhibition of 1889-1890. At the present moment we find him clerk of works on the building of the new Town Hall m Dunedin. Being Alek Dempster, he just naturally goes about his work with all- the vim of twenty-three.' The fact that the three-score-and-ten mark is already looming up on the horizon does not seriously affect him. When he is not spending his leisure hours m reading books appertaining to his calling, he uses his voice to good effect m the choir of the C.T. and W.A. Entertainers. In solo work he shows particularly fine quality and finish. ■
