Delightful

'WELLINGTON playgoers took "Ruddigore" to their hearts on the opening night of the Gilbert and Sullivan season. The music is well up to the Sullivan standard, while the "book" is full of the wit of Gilbert. The cast, headed by such high-class artists as Strella Wilson, James Hay, John Ralston, Charles Walenn, Patti Russell, Winifred Williamson and Bernard Manning, is unquestionably a strong one, and in their hands the opera was thoroughly enjoyable. The music of "Ruddigore" contains many beautiful solos and choruses, and there is a particularly attractive madrigal in the first act. A pretty little love story is cleverly incorporated, and there are several tuneful duets in which the principals take part. Several other Gilbert and Sullivan operas will be presented during the season.
