AT WAVERLEY

Lady Cavendish And Open Sprint

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Rep.) The annual meeting of the Waverley Racing Club is a very popular fixture with race-goers on the west coast of the North Island as^ it is held on Labor Day, a general holiday. MEXT Monday's fixture promises to be a most successful one, if the | weather is fine. There are some smart sprinters engaged in the Open Sprint. Lady Cavendish will have plenty of ! friends if she goes to the post, while Euphonium and Whenuanui can also go very fast. At her very best, the last-mentioned might possibly do the trick. There are a. lot engaged in the. maiden, including a speedy customer in Mariea (by Arrowsmith — Gladiole). The half-sister to Orchid will be hard to beat. Elysianor's Otaki form will, no doubt, cause him to be made favorite for the hurdles if he takes that event on instead of the Welter. Troileus and Pink Rose may prove his strongest opponents. Romantic, Sovena and Helen are three capable of running seven furlongs very fast, and they may fight out the issue in the Welter. Lady Desmond has gone on the right way since scoring easily at Awapuni and, though she has 9.0 to carry, she will be well backed. Monoghan and Orazone appeal, and they may give the top-weight most trouble. Vast Acre is engaged in the Flying Hack as well as the five-furlong event. Whichever she runs in she will prove a hard proposition. It is just possible she may take the two on and the Waverley meeting is noted for double winners. Denier and Helen may provide most opposition in the Flying, and Eka and Mon Desir in the Jackson Stakes. Earlier running should throw some light on the Moumahaki Stakes, in which, if they start, Closefire, Romantic and Lady Acre are likely to show up.
