MINOR RACES AT TE RAPA
Another Division Event Likely On To-morrow's Programme
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.)
In all probability punters will have to be on the alert for another of those objectionable division events at Te Rapa to-morrow.
THIS threatens to be the case with the Trial; if so, it is just as well to know that the dividends will be returned on winners only of each heat. The race has drawn 42 acceptors, mostly of unknown class, so that punters are up against it in trying to sort things out. Auriculus scored half-a-dozen placings as a two-year-old last season, while Orchus, Tidal, Good Boy, Vasier, Te Kama, Parfait Amour and Taurimu are some which give promise. But it is a dangerous event to tackle for more than a modest wager. There ' are many new aspirants for hurdle honors, but Wiltshire at 9st. may appeal because of his placed form over country al Ellerslie. If he did it right, Mt. Marta would be home with the money. He will have plenty of room at Te Rapa. Again, a number of fresh two-year-olds are booked to appear for the Tamahere Stakes, but Red Lion may take some beating. Envoy, Avon Court and Volimond have aU had some experience. J. T. Jamieson may produce a new one in th*« race which will cause ino^iiry. The Claudelands High Weight class should suit Dayguard, which- is improving every hour and ran a great third
to Le Choucas and Master Doon over the distance at Ellerslie last week. If Frisco Jack is as good as boomed by those who observed him win in the middle of the island, he should take the Clarkin Steeples with 9.10. In Kendal, Pendavies, Hypothesis and Wiltshire, however, he will probably meet better 'chasers than he has yet defeated. It only has to be on the soft side for Nancy Lee to take a power of beating in the Cambridge Handicap sprint, for two thirds at Avondale indicate that she is fully ready. Flying Juliet makes her first appearance for the season and if she has done enough will take some catching on last season's form. Other fancies will be Kingfield, Oration, Archeno and Nastori. But Nancy Lee has the recent form to recommend her. The Hautapa Hack will find both Manly and Branson at home in the class, because they are entitled to run out their nominations. Branson is the better of the pair on firm going, but it may be different with the turf soft. Te Kawana has more than a rough show at his easy poundage. Bright Dawn, Bold Front and Thurnus will also claim support.
