DOINGS OF DAN

IF a plebiscite were taken among cricket "fans". as to who is. the greatest cricketer New Zealand has produced, Dan Reese would be well in the running for a good place. Granted that his cricket was "finished off" during residential spells in Australia and England, but he is, nevertheless, New Zealand's very own, for he donned a Canterbury rep. cap whilst but a stripling of sixteen. In his prime his was a name to conjure with and there are not a few in Australia who opine that he nearly attained international fame. As skipper, too, of New Zealand teams he won glowing encomiums from Australian critics for his field-craft and generalship. Reese was no mean exponent of the Rugby code in his younger days, but eventually he paid exclusive homage to King Willow. And is he strong for the Summer-time Bill? Ask another. He helps to run a snug business in Christchurch and does not have to lie awake o'nights wondering how the wolf i.s to be kept at bay. Placed in this happy economic position, he has been able to indulge in his life hobby to the full. His numerous trips to Australia and period of residence in Melbourne were the means visible whereby a cricket entente cordiale between the two countries was nlarfid on a sound footincr.
