No wonder, then, that when he moved to Dunedin. he should be identified as a member ok the famous Pirates Club. But for an unfortunate accident he would have gained his "rep." cap while m the south. Intensely interested m amateur athletics, Fred has, sat on the Welling^ ton and Canterbury centres of the N.Z.A.A.A., but mere sitting and talking, athletics /.was not the be-all and end-all of his .interest. He took the fleld x himself, and as a runn§rhe has a long list of successes and a heap of trophies. His greatest, achievement to .date was his brilliant victory m winning the famous international handicap at Masterton, when he downed the colors of Jack Ayres Oostcrlaak and J.. W. Bukes.
