STRUCK OUT.
THE WAY OF A BUTCHER
With a Maid. %
The sexual indiscretion of a Pe* tone girl named Amy Matson lias caused her unwise lover much jincon^ venience. 'Amy met Henry Buttel, a butcher m the Gear Meat Co.'s works, for the first time on February, Ist, and he demonstrated the way of a man with a maid so successfully that the girl succumbed to hiss unholy embraces on February 2. The pair sinned with a reckless disregard of the consequences, several ■times subsequently, and a week or two back Amy discovered herself to be m a most embarrassing condition for an; unmarried girl. The discovery was communicated to Buttel, who seemed appalled by this remarkably early retribution for his misdeeds. At anyrate, he told her that his wife was ill m Australia and he purposed visiting the unfortunate woman at an early date. Much alarmed,, the victim of his evil passion took measures" to have Buttel detained,' and the other day the amprous butcher was charged m Wellington S.M. Court with an intention J TO ABANDON HIS UNBORN ILLEGITIMATE CHILD. Solicitor Smith outlined the above facts, which were disputed by learned Wilford on behalf of the male par:ty to the suit. Mr Smith indicated that the case for the prosecution depended largely upon the evidence of the girl herself, supported by the testimony of Dr. Ross as to her pregnancy. Mr ..Wilford •quoted the cases of Whittaker v. Johnson and Irvine v. Nicholson, wherein Stout, C.J., held thai; corroboration was necessary to support the evidence of a girl that intimacy had* taken place. Magistrate Riddell noted the contention, but didn't consider the time opportune to raise the point. When >the name of' Amy Matson was called she was not discovered m the Court precincts, although the girl had been m attendance earlier m the day. ' ' Wilford (to Smith) : Have you seen the statement she signed ?— Yes. And you think she will appear m the case after that ?— Yes,' certainly- ' ' Amy was given another chance by the Court orderly and As echo only, answered, the case was' struck out. ;
