Mr G. Bowron, of tlie.fum of Bowron Bros., about the methods of which this paper has had occasion to talk before, stated that the price' was excessive. The men could really only be classed as general laborers. The price he naid his men was 8s 4d and 9s a day. Now, Mr Bowron didn't explain to the Coart that he gave men from England £4 a week for doing this class of v'ork — • a limited number of ihiini— and put other men on at the v/i^c Ii« stated to assist these men, <n- m ether words to pick their brains ot the leduced rate. It was a very clever move, no doubt, and quite in' keening wi>Mi ibis .firm's methods cf dealing, with employees,, but why did not Bowr.on explain that the men to whom lie paid 8s 4d and Os a day had been taught their bus'nrss by £1 a week men.
