The madman or madmen who. are* endeavoring to burn the city of Ohristchurch don't seem to have any method m their madness, unless it is to afford, the numerous crooks of the city a chance to get away with plunder, and even that . isn't so easy when there are so many people aDout. The late fires m many instances have been deliberately caused, and a ruthless destruction of property haa^esiilted. There may foe a ga<ng of fire-raisers at work, and the police force should be augmented iv consequence.
