THE CAPTAIN THOMAS CASE.
The Captain Explains.
Repudiates the Story that He was Sacked.
Captain Thomas, who was lately an employee of the City Council and who was the subject of an article m "Truth" last week, has an explanation to make, and for that purpose he called at this office last -Monday to state his case. "Truth" is always willing to give both sides of the question and therefore gladly ; publishes Mr Thomas's statement. Mr. Thomas says, -f hat the money he was accused of misappropriating was never m his possession at all, but was found m a drawer along with some old papers by the Drainage Engineer. He put the mjoney m this drawer and it got mixed up with the papers and lie couldn't account for its disappearance. When the ! Council kicked up a row about the missing six quid he stood on his dig and resigned right away, and declares that he won't be wooed back at any price. He showed numerous testimonials from Sydney side and other places, which prove (if testimonials are worth anything at all) that, he has been most trustworth3 r m the many billets he has held. Regarding his house, he produced documents to prove that he had bought it from a building society and was paying for it at the rate of a few pounds a month, o, fact that prpves, as he says, that he could not have, been helped by contractors. "Truth" always believes that every man lias a right to a fair hearing, and therefore prints Mr Thomas's statement to do , him that justice.
