THE NELSON SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— ln the interests of fair play, permit me bidefly to "refer to one of your generous criticisms^ m- the issue of May 11 th on the above subject. It- has been wisely stated: "That 'Truth' is many-sided-." But Sir, I fear too many zealots put on "Green Goggles" when viewing any-, thing anti-Roman. Let me. assure you that the Nelson "Yellow Pup" only snueals when the/ "Green Pig" is standing on its paw. The squeal is, ''Get off." If it "gets ofi" peace is restored. Now, Sir, your correspondent (if informed and honest) could have told you the reason for the advt that seems to have upset your editorial equilebrium. The facts are these : At the proceeding election (1906) an army of Roman Catholics, headed by the local Priests, taking advantage of the general apathy, voted' out three members *of the committee who had insisted on the law relating to .private schools being observed by all such institutions, R.C. not excep.ted. But there are victories worse' than defeats. That's one of them. The big meeting at the last election, and the composition of .the new committee is the people's action to the un-British tactics of the Nelson R.C.'s. Tha fruitful cause of sectarianism is Rome itself. Now, Sir, who should fee gaoled for the 'common good ?— I am, etc.-, 'JOS. J. FRANK LYN. Nelson, May. 14th. *
