The Jeffries Rumors.
Says a recent .California!! paper :
Jas. J. Jeffries, 'heavyweight champion of the world, arrived m Loa Angeles the^ other m online, alter a long hunting trip m Oregon, and : branded the story that he would re-enter the rinse as false m every particutex.- , "You can deny this story for me," s-aid Jeffries, to a reporter. "I don't know how it came to be circulated about San . Francisco, but it didn/t come from me. I have no idea of reentering the ring at ths present time. This is" flat;" ■ •
Jeff ' looked well and strong and seemed to have taken off considerable flesh since he left Los Angeles: His party had a great deal of success hunting big game and he Was busy all the morning telling his friends stories of mountain lions and. bears "busted" by himself and his oompanions. >
• Although Jeffries denies that h« will re-enter the rin^. his friends say that the only thing which keeps him from it as the fact that there is no available opponent who could give him an argument.
If such an opponent .should materialize, Jeff would probably fight again.
The present heavyweight tangle will have to be settled between O'Brien, Burns, Berger and/KaUfmann awfc after any one of these men have established their right to meet the big fellow, he, will probably be accommodated.
