A letter from Mr Thomas Mitchell, on the subject of the decision of the S.M. m his action against the City Council for damages for injuries received by falling over a recumbent telephone pole, on Elizabeth-street, is held over, but will appear m next issue. The cable announces the bare fact Of the death, m Melbourne, of Miss Mabel Lane, the favorite actress. Not only those who had the honor and pleasure of personally knowing the beautiful, amiable and talented lady. but all who ever saw her act, marked t^e quiet dignity of her carriage, heard her melodious, thrilling voice and admired the noble figure, will deeply regret her untimely demise. Miss Lane (who cannot have nearly reached what is termed middle age, as she must have been well under 40) was beloved by every member of every company she played with, and never undertook a part without gracing it and endowing it with the nobility of her own nature.
