SENSIBLE* PROPOSAL.
There is a proposal to start cooking classes m connection with the Girls' College at.. Wanceanui. This is better and more likely to enable the girls to keep their husbands when they (ret 'em a»d keep 'em plump and ha v - too. Let the poet enter and warble :—
IJSEFUL SERVANTS. Let others find their exercise In golf pr hockey, we are wise, And know that bigger muscles wax From using brooms .with iron backs. No need a sporting suit to wear, And o'er the countn' side to tear— The stairs give galloping enough,And make their climbers really tough. "Three ateps a time" we upward soar, And comih(t down leap many more. Our scuttles have the "Sandow grip," With springs our powerful fingers clin. And they're so large that every one Will hold a quarter of a ton. As cooks we like to try our strength By holding saucepans at arm's length And often while we make the beds We lift the mattress o'er our heads, And oar our work we linger loiif^, Because we know it makes us strong. So down with tennis, down with all The games you play with club or ball. At "iris who cricket, girls who golf, We genuine female athletes scoff. I In sport ■domestic we can find The fun for which we're most inclined. Nor fear our muscles to compare With those who frisk m open air. And this is what our rival beats — There is some use m all. our feats. J. F. BURKE. Aramoho. . . j ! i |
