SAFRICAN SMASH PREDICTED.
"South Africa will soon provide one of the most gigantic smashes ever heard of." So writes A. Brittlebaaik, formerly of Albury, and now of Pretoria, to a friend m Tasmania. Not five per cent, of the companies recently floated, he says, are safe propositions, and the country is overrun with a horde of adventurers and speculators who are exploiting the alleged resources m a most unscrupulous fashion. Land monopoly is ■rife. The Oceanic and the African Exploration Companies own over one-' third of the Transvaal. One individual—a Jew— owns . 6,000,000 acres, and a few others hold the best of the remainder. "Hooray for Empire !" says Brittlebank.
