THE C.J.C.
Diddles the Revenue and Humbugs its Clients.
The Canterbury Jockey Club is getting itself disliked by people - whose money it handles for totalisator purposes. It is like this : A gentleman sent (among other monies) a pound to be put on Quiragno for the Sydenham Hurdles. The'son of Cuirassier ran second and the dividend was 15s. The secretary of the C. J.C. sent a credit note for Itfs (including 2s returned, which had befen forwarded for wires that the Clufo dto ( not send) and the amount m sixpenny revenue stamps, to change* which the recipient was charged Is ; at the post office here. The gentleman naturally thinks this unfair of the C.J.C. official, while the Wellington post office people consider that the ? Club is defrauding the revenue by sending stamps instead of buying a postal note. It really is a grievance and the C.J.C. would do well to amend it m future.
