WELLINGTON WELLKNOWNS
: He's a character alright, He's fond of getting tight, And with lobbies then he'll fight, John Burke ! He's a whale at lowering beer, And it gets him on his ear, When he does, things that are queer, John Burke.
He calls it' a seamen's mission, but he thinks poor Jack a bore, And on his own admission he much
prefers Jong shore Folk to throng his services and eke to fill his p_late ;
He's a bloke that's much inclined to leave poor sailors to their fate ; He riles instead of soothing, and rubs them on the raw, This missionary faker whose moniker is Moore.
He has wheels m his head and of Scriptural lore - He's as full as the sea is of whales. He daubs texts on his building and lord what a bore, When he's only required to make sails. His sails would be better—they're never much chop— II he didn't drag piety into the shop..
They call this wowser reverend, the gods alone know why ; There's naught to reverence m him, no more than you or I. In looks he's awful funny, a sort of missing link, And if you want to see him rage, just ask him out to drink. He has a kink And on the brink Of niatl ness gets when out he sets » To down the cursed drink.
