Tlie Hon. R. Moore, M.L.C., is la Wellington. Sir Frederick Chapman has returned to Wellington from the South Island. Tho Iffev. A. W. Stacc, of Kurow, Otago, has been appointed vicar of the Lawrence parish, and is to be inducted in the parish in January, Mr N. Bernard Freeman, managing director for Australia a7id New Zealand of Metro-Goklwyn-Maver, Limited, will arrive from Sydnev by the Tahiti. Mr M. and Mrs Freeman will be at the Midland. Dr. J. Flight, professor of history at Canterbury College, left Wellington on his way to England, where he takes tho nlaeo of Professor A. J. Grant, of tho University of Leeds, who is coming out here on the return trip of the Runhino. Dr. Hight is going to Great Britain on tho exchange system, and will bo absent for about fifteen month*. Professor Grant is the present examiner for the University of New Zealand in honours history. At tho reception at Government House on Friday night, at Auckland, the Governor-General, Sir Charles Kergusson, presented to Sir Henry Brett the letters patent of Knighthcod iti connection with the honour of Knight Bachelor confercd upon him by the King on January Ist last *n recognition of the valuable public services he had rendered to the Dominion during a period of over fifty yeans. His Excellency also presented to Major Alfred Thomas Dow. of the Colonial Auxiliary Force’s Officers, a decoration for long and meritorious service in the military forces.
