PERCY GRAINGER DROPS A BOMB
A bomb dropped into tbe musical world of Melbourne could hardly create a "renter sensation than the two concerts given last week in the Auditorium by Mr Percy Grainger (says the "Australasian”)* Even people who have more or less kept in touch with modern musical developments must have felt that they were being asked to face problems hitherto unheard of, Amazing combinations of instruments and voices, strange rhythms, astounding harmonics, and a general bombardment of the musical faculties; all these things conjoined to produce an effect little short of stupefying. 'MIDNIGHT FROLICS An Auckland critic writes:—"Clem Dawo is one of the finest comedians that have ever performed before Auckland audiences. His entry on to the stage is the signal for outbursts of laughter; his versatility is amazing, Eric EdgIcy is a worthy companion of Dawe. Between them they veritably make the audience rock with laughter. Whilst on the subject of comedy I will mention Ijes White and Dorothy White, two mirthmakers of talent. Gregory Ivanoff’s violin becomes more popular each week. His playing is exceedingly fine. The singing of Oscar Beck and Alec Regan with. Ronald Stafford accompanying
them on the piano, is a musical treat. The dancing of the petite Phyllis Amery is a feature of tlio Frolics’ performance. "She alone is worth coming to soo," is a remark I overheard and might well repeat. The Frolics is the best show of its kind that has ever come to Auckland, and I look forward to seeing them remain hero for many more weeks." Auckland will have them for another four weeks, then Wellington will have a chance of seeing this much-talked-of revue company, which lias created something in tlio nature‘of a theatrical sensation since its opening in the Queen City. The Wellington season commences Boxing Day, December 27th.
