KENT TERRACE AGAIN

WORK SOON TO PROCEED MAYOR ANSWERS OBJECTORS. Ten days’ notice of its intention to proceed with the work of remodelling Kent terrace has been given by the City Council, the objectors refusing to consent to the work going on immediately. Yesterday the Mayor made a statement on the position. “I do not think that the statement by the objectors to the Kent terrace improvements calls for any general reply from me,” remarked Mr Norwood. “We aye living in a well-order-ed community, and I do not think that citizens can look upon the latest statement of the objectors as being consistent with good taste. Substantially the whole of their statement was placed before Mr E. Page. S.M., at the inquiry, and it also follows very closely the address made to the court by Mr A. L. Hunt. As Mr Page is an experienced and able magistrate, it would be idle, if not improper, to attempt to have the matter discussed in a newspaper controversy. “The public should know that up to the time of this interview we have not been able to get the consent of the objectors to the dissolution of the injunction. without which consent 10 days’ notice is necessary; hut the proclamation was issued almost immediately the decision was given, and the 10 days’ notice has almost expired.”
