LYCEUM CLUB
The Study Circle of the Lyceum Club held a League of Nations evening last night, when a number of the Consuls in Wellington and their wives were tho guest, of honour. Sira Evans, leader of the circle, presided, and was presented, as was Mrs Anderson, president of the club, with a posy of flowers.
Mrs Evans read a most interesting and instructive paper on the League of Nations, and at the conclusion of a musical programme the Rev. Dr Gibb in a few forceful words exhorted everyone to in every way back up the league, for only by the weight of public opinion could the league continue to exist and to act for the peace of the world. Tt was his deep and considered opinion that only through the League of Nations could civilisation as we knew it continue to euß*t. Songs were given by Mr Stapo. Mr Leo Buckeridge, Miss Allan Dillon, Mrs W. H. Phillips, and Miss Ramsay: Mr Stapp and Miss Dillon sang duets. Miss Mavis Dillon gave a pianoforte solo. Miss Hardinge-Maltby was heard in Shakespearean monologues, and. Miss Walsh recited. At the conclusion of the programme simper was served, and was much euioved.
